Mammography is remarkable diagnostic tool that can find cancer in its earliest stages, when the cure rate is extremely high and surgical solutions may be simpler. The level of radiation needed to produce a high quality mammogram (image of the breast) is so low, like natural radiation in our environment, it is well within the safe range. Mammograms play a central part in the early detection of breast cancer because they can detect changes in the breast that may be early signs of cancer, but are too small or subtle to be felt. At Minden Medical Center, getting a mammogram is a simple procedure offered as an outpatient service in our Breast Care Center. The Center is equipped with safe and advanced technology and is staffed exclusively by registered women technologists who show special consideration because they understand your feelings and your need for privacy first hand. The use of mammography has greatly enhanced the ability to detect breast cancers at earlier stages. Now a new technology called digital mammography shows great promise in the fight against breast cancer. Read more about our digital mammography service.
